The strategy for the development of DICP in the coming decade is as follows:
We will take sustainable energy sources as the dominant research area, while maintaining a coordinative development in the optimization of environmental resources and the innovation of biotechnologies.
The strategy can further break down into the following detailed areas:
Sustainable energies:
The predominant area is the utilization of fossil energies, while utilizations of secondary energy sources such as syngas, lower hydrocarbons and hydrogen are also taken into account. R & D of technologies for the utilization of renewable energies, as well as technologies for diminishing CO2 emissions, are regarded as key programs as well.
Resources and environment:
By taking optimum utilization of resources as the main target, efforts are put to the research and innovation of green chemical technologies with proprietary intelligence property rights.
Biotechnologies:
By considering renewable energies and environment as the background, developments are pursued in technologies of enzymes and biocatalysis by means of genetic engineering and protein engineering. Investigations will also be actively carried out in the areas concerning the production and action mechanism of natural drugs and biomaterials.
Fundamental research:
The recognition of the nature of chemical reactions as well as the principles of selectivity is aimed at as the main goals for basic studies. Emphases are put on modeling by computers and theoretical computations.
High technology related to national security:
Our aim in this aspect is to make irreplaceable contributions for the sustainable development and national security of our country by strengthening innovation and integration in key technologies, by utilizing effectively the scientific accumulation of relevant fields of our institute, and by seeking new cut-in points.
