Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was founded in March 1949. It is a multidisciplinary institute engaging in both fundamental and applied researches of chemistry and chemical engineering, especially with strong abilities in technological development.
Over the span of half a century, DICP has conducted researches of many fields, all-integrating closely with the needs of national economic reconstructions. It has developed its own features in catalytic chemistry, engineering chemistry, organic synthetic chemistry, chemical lasers and molecular reaction dynamics, biotechnology, as well as in modern analytical chemistry, especially in chromatography. A large number of achievements have been obtained, which have made important contribution in national economic reconstructions.
DICP, as China's top ten academic institutions in natural sciences and high-tech innovation, has always attached great importance to the academic exchange and cooperation with international science and technology communities. In the last four years, DICP has established formal contacts with major research and academic organizations in more than 32 countries and regions, and invited more than 875 scientists to visit our institute and participate in academic activities. We also have dispatched 830 scientists to foreign countries for all kinds of academic activities.
During this period, about 8 scientists from the DICP have held positions in 13 international academic organizations including conference chair, council member, member of international scientific committee, editor-in-chief etc. Nineteen foreign distinguished experts and scholars are invited to be honorary professors, guest professors or to hold adjunct posts in DICP including Dr. Richard J. Roberts, the 1993 winner of Nobel Prize for Medicine and Prof. Wüthrich, the winner of the Nobel Prize of 2002, and Prof. Vogt, nominee of the Nobel Prize in the year of 1975 and 2002.
We have successfully held 14 international conferences, such as the 3rd Asia-Pacific Congress on Catalysis - APCAT 3, the 7th International Conference on Inorganic Membranes, the 4th Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Microscale Separations and Analysis, the 5th International Conference on Catalysis in Membrane Reactors, DICP Symposium, etc.
The international exchange of DICP has changed gradually from the simple academic exchange in the past to the comprehensive and essential combination with the deepening of reform and opening to the outside of the country. Facing international scientific frontiers, several close cooperative research programs with the world famous institutes or companies around the world have been established, such as “Laboratoire Franco-Chinois de Catalyse”, Partner Group of the Fritz-Haber-Institut der MPG, BP-China Research Center,DICP-BP Energy Innovation laboratory and DICP-SAMSUNG Fuel Cell Joint Lab. Moreover, some of the world’s Top 500 companies, such as General Motor, Eli Lilly and Company from USA, Bayer CropScience AG, and BASF Aktiengensellschaft from Germany have established cooperation with DICP.
International cooperation has made significant contributions to the improvement of science and technology standards, training of talents, upgrading of experimental conditions, acquisition of foreign investment, and exchange of information at DICP. The collaborative partners have also benefited significantly to access our excellent R&D expertise and facilities as well as the Chinese market, which make the collaboration of a genuine “win-win” event.
Aiming at building up a world-wide reputation for outstanding academic and research achievements, DICP is making unprecedented efforts to promote the international cooperation at all levels.
