Introduction:
The lab contracts the research programs on short wavelength chemical lasers from the national 863 hi-tech R&D project. It is primarily engaged in fundamental research of chemical lasers, also carries on their applications. It will make efforts to keep pace with the advanced level in the field of chemical lasers.

A chemical laser device can be regarded as an energy converter that converts chemical energy into coherent optic energy. The lab is mainly focusing on the R&D of chemical oxygen iodine laser (COIL) in recent years. COIL is the first chemical laser based on electronic-energy-transition, with the prominent advantages of good scalability, high efficiency, excellent beam quality, and short wavelength that can be transmitted via optical fiber efficiently. All of the fuels of COIL are ordinary inorganic products that are commercially available. COIL has a promising prospect with a wide variety of applications.

The lab is equipped with advanced facilities such as integrated supersonic COIL devices, various prototypes of singlet oxygen generators, novel optical resonators, various probe lasers, spectrometers and interferometers for chemical, gasdynamic and optical measurements, as well as optical lappers and coaters for optical processing, computers for mechanical design, electrical control & diagnostics, and numerical simulations, etc.
