Introduction:
The group is led by Prof. Dr. Guowang XU, consiting of 30 scientists and students engaging on investigations of analytical chemistry of complex systems and metabonomics, with emphasis on developing high resolution separation methods based on chromatography, capillary electrophoresis and mass spectrometery as well as their applications in petroleum, pharmaceutics and life science

Research Interests:
      1. Methodology research on complex samples analysis, especially in improving resolution and sensitivity.
      2. Clinical analytical chemistry
      3. Investigation of metabonomics technique platform
      4. Biocatalysis and biotransformation
      5. Multi-column systems of multi-dimensional gas chromatography

Research Projects:
      1. Chemical component analysis of smoking gases by comprehensive two-dimensional chromatography/ time-of-flight mass spectrometer (National Tobacco Management bureau of China, 2001-2002, RMB 840,000)
      2. Investigation of online solid phase extract-capillary electrophoresis system for the analysis of arsenic speciation (NSFC, 2000-2002, RMB 120,000)
      3. Methodology investigation of complex samples analyzed by using comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography/ time-of-flight mass spectrometer (NSFC, 2002-2004, RMB 260,000)
      4. Inherited background investigation of family cancers (Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2001-2002, RMB 1,000,000)
      5. Investigation of metabonomics platforms (High-technology development plan “863 project” of State Ministry of Science and Technology of China, 2003-2006, RMB 900,000)
      6. The theory and method of biology system catalysis (National Foundation Project “973 project”, RMB 1,200,000)

Collaborations:
This group is very active in the international and national scientific exchange and collaborations. The cooperation has been carried out with many related institute and university, such as Qinghua University, Wuhan University, Shanghai Life Science institute, Zhengzhou Tobacco Research Institute of CNTC. The group also has good relationship with related laboratories as well as institutes in different countries and regions, such as Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, USA. Over twenty plenary and invited talks were given in the international symposia and conferences from the members of the Lab.
