      Led by Prof. Dr. Bingcheng LIN, the group consisting of 4 staff members (Prof. Dr. Feng XU, Mr. Zhongpeng DAI, Ms Weishi), 24 doctor candidates (including 3 associate professors) and 1 post-doctorial fellow. Present researches of this group aim at the development of high throughput or highly integrated method for clinical diagnosis and drug screening, based mainly on the Lab on a Chip technology (LOAC). Basic researches are carrying out on novel LOAC based methods for both cell/single cell and molecule/single molecule analysis and detection. The group has attained the capabilities of fabricate both glass and polymeric micro-fluidic chips with different extend of integration. The group has built up 8 detection and control systems for various chip based applications.

      Backed by these capabilities, the group has been carrying out studies in the separation and analysis of DNA, proteins, glycoproteins and other bio-molecules. Method of single cell lysis and intracellular analysis in micro-fluidic chips has been developed, single dye molecules and ?-DNA molecules have been successfully imaged and identified. The migration speeds of ?-DNA molecules were determined through an improved trajectory based method. Such basic techniques have been successfully applied in the SARS diagnosis based on RT-PCR and MCE with 18 cases, methylation analysis of the p16 gene in 159 samples for cancer diagnosis and polymorphism analysis of angiotenigen gene in 226 patients and references with essential hypertension.

      (5) The Microchip-based System for the Detection of Cortisol and testosterone in Serum (Olympic Key Project of The Ministry of Science and Technology, 2003.1-2004.12, RMB 300000)

      APCE2002 (the 4th Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Micro-scale Separations and Analysis) was organized by this group and chaired by Prof. Bingcheng Lin. Over 200 scientists attended this meeting from more that 20 different countries and regions. New development and future trend of LOAC and CE technology were extensively discussed. This meeting had great impact on the development of LOAC and CE technology in China and greatly enhanced the communications and cooperation in this field between China and other countries. At the closed period of time, the National Symposium on Capillary Electrophoresis (CCE2002) was also organized by this group and chaired by Prof. Lin The group has setup long term cooperation with institutions in USA and Hong Kong SAR.
